What is a Parks Master Plan?
It is a journey to discover the community’s values and unmet needs and then develop a roadmap and a shared vision for the future of parks and recreation in Redlands.
The City of Redlands, settled against the striking backdrop of the San Bernardino Mountains and scenic canyonlands, is located approximately 60 miles east of Los Angeles, and 45 miles northwest of Palm Springs, making it an easy drive to reach mountains, beaches and deserts. The city is known for its Victorian and historical architecture, weekly farmers’ market events, Lincoln Memorial Shrine, and the Redlands Bowl.
Redlands is a distinctive city in the Inland Empire and is unique from other communities in the region. It has a charming, walkable Downtown surrounded by historical and coveted neighborhoods; many exquisitely crafted buildings; expansive streets; prominent institutions; and a rich arts and culture scene.
The city maintains and operates over 450 acres of parks and open-space, two senior centers, a community center, and numerous special events throughout the year for the benefit of our residents and guests.
“Providing superior services to elevate the quality of life, to cultivate community and encourage a thriving economy while preparing for the future.”
“In Redlands, we envision a connected, conscientious, safe community with a small town feel in which all people and businesses can thrive.”

Did you know that spending time in parks and participating in recreation activities can improve you and your family's health? Research has consistently shown that even moderate exercise, a 30-min walk, and just time outdoors in nature boosts your physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being. From property values to economic impact and rebuilding a sense of community pride, parks and recreation provide a tremendous benefit to Redlands.
The City of Redlands staff is leading this work internally and are collaborating externally with Riverside-based RHA Landscape-Architects and Planners Inc. a Riverside-based firm and Next Practice Partners, a national leader in inclusive and innovative planning.
The Parks Master Plan is anticipated to be completed by March 2025.
